Privacy and sensitive data

Field data can be sensitive.

Archaeological sites, biological resources, rare species, private parcels, project boundaries, and survey notes need careful handling. Ology is being built with that reality in mind.

Current privacy-minded features

  • App lock option for protecting project data on the device
  • Option to exclude sensitive project data from backup
  • Confidential beta agreement workflow
  • Local project and layer storage emphasis
  • Export workflows that let users choose what to share
  • Support for restricted or secured agency layer workflows

Important note

This website is not a legal privacy policy for an App Store release. It is a public explanation of Ology’s design approach while the app is in active development. A formal privacy policy should be finalized before broad public release or App Store distribution.

Future privacy ideas

Better controls for public-safe sharing.

RED

Redacted exports

Create public-safe exports that remove sensitive layers, strip coordinates, or reduce coordinate precision.

ROLE

Reviewer modes

Separate internal project data from data that can be shared with crew members, clients, agencies, or public audiences.

LOG

Export audit notes

Record what was exported, when, by whom, and whether sensitive layers were included or excluded.
